Specter Knight proves to be even more athletic than Shovel Knight, and as well as a giant scythe has the ability to run up and wall jump from most surfaces. It turns out that he is not necessarily a willing servant of the Enchantress and you quickly end up rooting from him, even if you cursed his name while trying to beat him in the first game. The story is a prequel, and deals with the tragic backstory of Specter Knight – one of the Mega Man-like bosses from the original. Shovel Knight: Specter Of Torment (NS) – a flashback to Specter Knight’s previous lifeĪs with the first expansion, the big draw for Specter Of Torment is that you get to play as a bad guy. For not only is there this new expansion but the first two games are also available on the eShop. And from day one that includes the Switch. Although developer Yacht Club Games clearly has a close relationship with Nintendo (Shovel Knight himself is the only indie character to get an amiibo) the game is currently available on just about every platform imaginable. Indie games that look like old NES platformers have become legion over the last decade or so, but Shovel Knight has always been one of our favourites. They’re also all console exclusives as is this new expansion for Shovel Knight, if only for a month. Snipperclips is a lot better multiplayer game than 1-2-Switch, and while by no means classics FAST RMX and VOEZ are very credible entries in their respective genres. The Switch may have had an embarrassingly weak launch line-up of retail games, but as it’s turned out the offerings on the eShop have been much more impressive.
